Seven Corners Travel Insurance Plans

Seven Corners offers travel insurance for U.S. residents for domestic and international trips. It also offers travel medical insurance, student travel insurance, annual travel insurance and group travel insurance.

Seven Corners’ RoundTrip Choice plan (above) is its highest-rated plan according to Forbes Advisor’s ratings of the best travel insurance.

Seven Corners’ RoundTrip Basic plan: This travel plan includes coverage for canceling the trip due to Covid-19 and emergency medical coverage for Covid-19. The plan offers $100,000 in medical coverage with secondary coverage, which means any other health insurance that you have would pay first for your medical issues. Medical evacuation coverage is $250,000 per person.

Liaison Travel Medical plan: This plan provides medical coverage if you’re specifically traveling outside the U.S., with optional Covid-19 coverage if you choose Liaison Plus.

Liaison Student plan: This travel plan provides specialized health insurance for students and faculty who are abroad. It meets the insurance requirements of most visas. There is optional Covid-19 coverage with Liaison Student Plus.

Seven Corners offers optional travel benefits such as “cancel for any reason” coverage (CFAR). This upgrade allows you to cancel the trip for a reason not listed in the base policy. Reimbursement is 75% under a CFAR claim with a Seven Corners policy.

What’s Not Covered by Seven Corners Travel Insurance?

Every travel insurance plan contains exclusions and it’s a good idea to review the fine print so that you’re aware of what your plan doesn’t cover. Here are some examples of exclusions in the RoundTrip Choice plan:

  • Routine physical examinations and routine dental care
  • Mental health care
  • Physical therapy or occupational therapy
  • Experimental or investigative treatment or procedures
  • Elective treatment and procedures
  • Mental, nervous or psychological condition or disorder unless hospitalized or partially hospitalized
  • Suicide or attempted suicide or any intentionally self-inflicted injury
  • Air travel on a privately owned airplane whether as a pilot or a passenger

How To File a Claim with Seven Corners

At Seven Corners, you can file a claim by mail, fax, phone or through the Seven Corners mobile app. Be sure you have the supporting documentation you’ll need for completing the claim.

Methodology

Forbes Advisor scored 53 policies to find the best travel insurance plans using data provided by Squaremouth, a travel insurance comparison provider. When companies had more than one travel insurance plan we used the highest-scoring plan. Some companies may have plans with richer benefits and/or lower prices than their top-scoring plans, so make sure to get travel insurance quotes to see your full range of choices. The benefits scored were:

Cost (25% of score): We scored the average cost for each travel insurance policy for trips to the popular destinations of Italy and Mexico for common traveler profiles:

  • Couple, age 30 for Mexico trip costing $3,000
  • Couple, age 40, for Italy trip costing $6,000
  • Family of four for Italy trip costing $15,000
  • Couple, age 65, for Italy trip costing $6,000
  • Couple, age 70, for Mexico trip costing $3,000

Covid-related medical coverage (10% of score): Travel insurance policies were awarded points if they include coverage for Covid-related medical expenses.

Medical expenses (10% of score): Travel medical insurance was evaluated by coverage amount. Travel insurance policies with travel medical expense benefits of $250,000 and up per person were given the highest points.

Medical evacuation (10% of score): Emergency medical evacuation/transportation coverage was evaluated by coverage amount. Travel insurance policies with medical evacuation expense benefits of $500,000 and up per person were given the highest points.

“Cancel for any reason” upgrade (10%): Travel insurance policies received points if “cancel for any reason” upgrades were offered. More points were awarded for “cancel for any reason” upgrades with reimbursement levels of 75%.

Baggage delay required waiting time (5%): Policies with baggage delay benefits kicking in at 12 hours or less were given points.

Baggage reimbursement benefits (5%): Travel insurance plans with baggage reimbursement benefits of $2,000 per person and higher were awarded points.

Hurricane and weather (5%): Plans received points If the required waiting period for hurricane and weather coverage was 12 hours or less.

“Interruption for any reason” upgrade (5%): Policies were awarded points if they offered an “interruption for any reason” upgrade.

Pre-existing medical condition exclusion waiver (5%): Points were given to policies that cover pre-existing medical conditions if purchased within a required timeline.

Travel delay required waiting time (5%): Policies with travel delay benefits kicking in after six hours or less were given points.

Trip interruption travel insurance (5%): Points were given if trip interruption reimbursement was 150% or higher.

Do Seven Corners travel insurance plans cover Covid?

Seven Corners has travel insurance plans that include coverage for Covid-related trip cancellation and medical expenses. For example, both the RoundTrip Choice plan and RoundTrip Basic plan include Covid coverage. Optional Covid-19 coverage is also available with Seven Corners’ Liaison Travel Medical plan and Liaison Student plan.

If you get sick with Covid right before you were planning to leave on a trip and have to cancel, these plans will reimburse you for 100% of what you lose in pre-paid and non-refundable deposits. And if you get sick with Covid during your trip, these plans can cover associated medical costs.

Do Seven Corners travel insurance plans cover pre-existing medical conditions?

Pre-existing medical condition exclusion waivers are available from Seven Corners for RoundTrip Choice and RoundTrip Elite customers. These waivers give you travel medical coverage for pre-existing conditions. To qualify for the waiver, you must:

  • Buy your plan within 20 days of the date of your initial trip payment
  • Insure all non-refundable prepaid trip costs
  • Insure the cost of future travel arrangements added to your trip within 20 days of paying for the new arrangements
  • Not be disabled from travel when you bought your travel insurance plan

Does Seven Corners have “cancel for any reason” coverage?

Seven Corners provides the option to upgrade to “cancel for any reason” (CFAR) coverage on its RoundTrip Basic, RoundTrip Choice and RoundTrip Elite plans.

“Cancel for any reason” coverage gives you the option to cancel a trip up to two days before departure for a reason not listed in the plan’s base trip cancellation reasons. For example, you could cancel your trip because you changed your mind about traveling.

Make sure to check the rules for CFAR for the plan you’re buying. With Seven Corners, CFAR reimburses you for 75% of your non-refundable trip cost. To make a CFAR claim with Seven Corners you’ll need to:

  • Cancel your trip two days or more before your scheduled departure date.
  • Buy insurance with CFAR coverage within 20 days of your initial trip deposit.
  • Insure all non-refundable, prepaid trip costs including the cost of any additional travel arrangements added to your trip within 15 days of paying for the arrangements.
